Andy was a good man he convinced the guards to give him and the men working on the roof of the plate factory, by doing the taxes for the guard and giving him helpful advice. Andy always sent letters to the ministry trying to get funding for the library. near the end of the year Andy was doing almost everyone's taxes and had set up trust funds and all sorts of banking needs. Around that time there were a lot of pills flowing through Shawshank. 1963 a new warden came to shawshank named William Norton he didn't quite understand how things worked at shawshank especially with Andy so he was treated like a normal prisoner again.this warden also introduced the inside out program which is basically slave labor.

in this section Andy asks Red to set him a poster of Rita Hayworth.  in the novel Shawshank redemption Andy becomes favored by the guards. he becomes the new prisoner in charge of the library. one day Andy gave some tax advice to the guy in charge of Shawshank then Andy did his taxis. Andy got an addition to his library because of the position he was in. he was persistent in getting funding  for the library. Being in-charge of the library and expanding it to over double its size gave Andy a good rep with the other cons
